Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials. The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies. Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
